Tell us about how you met and the proposal...
We met through friends when I moved to Albury from New Zealand for work. Ben popped the question on the coast of the Cinque Terre in Italy on my 30th birthday trip. He had organised my engagement ring online through a few Skype meetings with Navey and Sloane, who are amazing jewellers in New Zealand. It was so funny because he only saw the ring for the first time when I did.
Where was the location of your wedding ceremony and reception?
We got married in front of the vines at Dal Zotto Wines in the beautiful KingValley. Dal Zotto also hosted our reception out on the lawn.
How did you find the location?
We organised our whole wedding online from the UK, where we live. We loved Dal Zotto Prosecco when we were living in Australia, so when we contacted them on email and they were immediately so helpful, it was an easy choice. When you are organising a wedding from the opposite side of the world, trusting your suppliers to respond quickly online is essential.
During the planning of your wedding, how many times did you visit the location?
Once, a few months before our wedding when we did a quick visit home.
What was the theme of your wedding?
Rustic garden party.
How difficult or easy was it to plan your wedding?
Easy, we did everything online.
Where did the majority of your guests stay?
Mountain View Hotel (the local pub) and a number of self contained Airbnbs (KV Lusso, Jessie’s Creek Cottage, 1 Bakery Lane, Pizzini)
Did you have an itinerary or planned activity for guests on either side of the wedding?
We had an informal dinner the night before at the Mountain View pub and then breakfast the morning after the wedding at Whitty Café.
What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in North East Victoria?
Book your suppliers in advance so you can get local suppliers. Everyone we worked with was amazing.
What did you like about having a destination wedding?
Our families and friends are all over the world, and this location worked to get them all together, it was really special.
What are you glad you did on the day?
Two things: First, booked a marquee – I was paranoid it would rain and in the end it was beautiful, but having the marquee was so pretty with all of the fairy lights. Second, we stayed within walking distance to the venue, which made everything so simple.
What advice would you give someone else planning a destination wedding?
Get advice from other people who have had their wedding in a similar area and steal their supplier list. This made our lives so much easier.
What standout vendors from your chosen wedding destination would you recommend to others?
Dal Zotto Wines - venue
Georgie James - photography (our wedding photos turned out amazing!)
Seed and Bloom - flowers (they blew me away)
Trent Cash - musician (he played at the ceremony and all through our reception and was great!)
24Seven events - marquee and lights (they organised it all with four days notice and it was beautiful)
Where did you choose to honeymoon and why?
We had a minimoon in Bright; it was a perfect way to relax after an action-packed week of wedding celebrations and catching up with family and friends.
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Celebrating saying ‘I do’ with all of our family and friends.
