After a whirlwind romance this couple from Manly in Sydney, sealed the deal in beautiful Byron Bay.

Tell us about how you met and the proposal...

We met online, went for one date and both knew we had met the one. We moved in together after three dates and were engaged within six months.

Trent proposed when we were on holiday in Oman. It was during a glorious sunset and at midnight in Australia. Ironically, we had already been pretending that we were married due to local laws in Oman! Trent bought the engagement ring in Dubai on our way home back to Australia.

 

Where was the location of your ceremony and reception? 

The Farm Byron Bay at the Three Blue Ducks restaurant

 

How did you find the location and why did you choose it?

Trent being from Tamworth, me from Melbourne and both living in Sydney, we wanted a destination that wouldn’t be too difficult for all guests. As we both loved Byron Bay it seemed a logical choice. The Farm was also an easy choice. As we loved the relaxed vibe of the Farm and what we knew to be great food.

 

During the planning of your wedding how many times did you visit the location?

We only visited twice as we knew the area reasonably well.  Three Blue Ducks also provided a fabulous wedding planner, Stephanie Brodeur, who was beyond incredible

 

What was the theme of your wedding?

We were angling for a sophisticated relaxed vibe

 

How easy or hard was it to plan your wedding?

It was pretty easy to plan as everything was at one location. We also knew we would have a five week old on the day. So we didn’t have the time to agonise over every decision. It was pretty much gut feel.

 

Where did the majority of your guests stay?

Guests mostly stayed in Airbnb or hotels near the township.

 

Did you have an itinerary or planned activities for guests on either side of the wedding? 

We had casual drinks at the Byron bay pub the night before and then a bbq the day after the wedding. Both were low fuss affairs given our baby.

 

What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in this location?

Byron Bay caters incredibly well for weddings, but, its easy to get way laid with sub standard providers.  For items that were critical to us, we flew suppliers in - our photographer and my hairdresser/make up artist in particular. It was worth the extra cost to avoid the stress.

 

What did you like about having a destination wedding?

The event lasted longer than just the day. We got to spend time with family and friends over many days. It was also such a relaxed atmosphere.

 

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

It’s a tie between the speeches, where the pure emotion, joy and fun of the day was perfectly encapsulated and then letting loose on the dancefloor with all our friends and family, as well as Bobby, The Farms, rooster, who was quite the showman and dancer!

 

What advice would you give someone else planning a destination wedding?

Follow your intended suppliers through a social media outlet for a while so you know you will be happy with their work on the day.

 

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Not a thing.

 

How many days before the wedding did you arrive at your location?

We arrived three days before the day. It was enough to check everything over and spend time relaxing.

 

How many days did you stay at the location of your wedding?

We stayed on another four days

 

Were there any particularly special or memorable moments from the day you want to share?

Taking a moment to absorb everything around us as we had our first dance was important to us. We couldn’t really practice the dance beforehand as my baby belly got in the way! The when Trent’s Mum handed us our baby boy to share our dance, we and everyone else got very emotional

We also asked two of best friends to do a “Trent and Jaimee Trivia” rather than speeches. It was a great way for our guests to be involved and entertained in what can be a bit of tedious period during a reception.

 

Tell us about any special details...

We had a local Manly artist hand paint our invitations. She also did the welcome sign, menu and name cards. We then used the colour theme to tie together all the flowers from the bouquet to the flowers on the table. The seasonal flowers and colour palate was more important, rather than specific flowers.

 

Was there a special menu?

We selected a feasting menu so guests shared plates which made the night seem more festive.

 

Tell us about your cake...

The wedding cake was a cheese wheel selection. We served the cheeses at our bbq the next day. We also served chocolate coated macadamias as a homage to the local area produce and our ceremony location, a macadamia orchard, in particular.

 

Tell us about the music...

We had met a busker on a previous trip who played acoustic songs at the ceremony, including his own song, Firefly, as the wedding song. He then pulled together a five piece band for the reception. He played “I love you baby”, our favourite song, in a big swing style to get guests up on the dance floor. He also played a big band version of Darryl Brathwaite’s Horses, and The Spice Girls, Stop as we knew they would be crowd pleasers. The rest was up to him.

 

Did you have transport for your guests?
