Tell us about how you met and the proposal...
Regan was 17 and I was 16, as typical young teenagers we met at a backyard party, it wasn’t until a few weeks later we exchanged numbers via Myspace and did not stop talking every day from then on.
It was the 5th of January 2017 we went on a holiday to Palm Cove, Regan surprised me with a helicopter flight from Cairns to a private island (Vlasoff Cay Island) on the Great Barrier Reef. We snorkeled, had a picnic with champagne and chocolate. As we were walking along the water Regan suggested he would get the pilot to take photos of us, so he walked back to the helicopter and before I knew it I turned around and Regan was down on one knee asking me to marry him, with the pilot in the background taking photos.
Where was the location of your ceremony and reception?
Chrismont Winery King Valley Victoria.
How did you find the location and why did you choose it?
Regan surprised me with a hot air balloon ride at Myrtlefield for my birthday in March, after the ride we decided to drive through the King Valley and stop at some wineries for tastings, that is when we discovered Chrismont Winery, it’s beautiful modern exterior sitting on top of a beautiful hill surrounded by vineyards took our breath away, as soon as we walked through the doors and stepped out onto the balcony we knew this was the place and inquired straight away if they do weddings, that is when we met Jo the owner of Chrismont and found out they exclusively cater for only several weddings a year, so we knew we had to act fast and within a few weeks had set a date for February the 24th 2018.
During the planning of your wedding how many times did you visit the location?
We visited Chrismont Winery at least 8-10 times before the wedding day, some occasions just to enjoy their beautiful food, views and wine.
What was the theme of your wedding?
Modern, clean, minimal.
How easy or hard was it to plan your wedding?
During the early stages of wedding planning was a bit overwhelming, after securing a venue and locking in a wedding date you get a sense of relief. But you also then feel the pressure to book all the major things straight away, so the social media research began! That is when I stumbled across Luke Chisholm from Wagga, his style of photography was incredible and I contacted him immediately and was lucky enough to secure our wedding date. After a couple of weeks I had not done much else, then I met Samantha Robinson from Forethought by Samantha, we had a coffee date and I was convinced immediately I needed a wedding planner in my life! From this point on, wedding planning was made a trillion times easier, the stress was taken away from me and Sam was able to guide us through the whole process.
Where did the majority of your guests stay?
A bus was provided from Wodonga to King Valley so majority of guests stayed in Wodonga, some stayed in the King Valley but not many as there is limited accommodation in the area.
What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in this location?
Enjoy all the wine tastings, food and sightseeing this region has to offer, it is one of the most beautiful locations in the country and it is an incredible experience to take it in leading up to your wedding.
What did you like about having a destination wedding?
Having a destination wedding allowed us to experience something new that our region does not have to offer. Which meant we had the most beautiful landscape for photos.
What was your favourite part of your wedding day?
Second to marrying my husband, was having the photos and videography with our bridal party. Something that in lead up to the wedding I was most dreading, was actually great fun and meant my husband and I had quality time together amongst the busy day.
What advice would you give someone else planning a destination wedding?
Hire a wedding planner!
Is there anything you would have done differently?
I would not change a thing.
How many days before the wedding did you arrive at your location?
The day before.
How many days did you stay at the location of your wedding?
Did you have guest gifts? I
In Lieu of gifts, we donated to the leukemia foundation and presented our guests with a card on the table that read:
“In Lieu of a favour after much thought and consideration we have chosen a special way to say thank you for sharing our wedding day with us. In Lieu of traditional wedding favours we have made a donation on behalf of our guests to the Leukemia foundation, an organisation close to ours hearts. In memory of Andrew Cadigan (Regan’s cousin) who dedicated two years of his life to an epic 15,000km solo walk around Australia to raise money for the foundation. This donation is also in honour of Cathie Reynolds (Jacinta’s mum), who battled and fought Leukemia and throughout her journey had incredible support from the foundation to herself and her family. We believe the best gift we can give is the gift of helping others. Jacinta and Regan 24.02.18”
