Stylist, Kate Haynes, is from One Day In March (ODIM), an Albury based styling business focusing on designing, planning, and creation of events and concepts including weddings. With the business recently having branched out to hand picking bridal wear, bridal designers, bespoke accessories, for brides-to-be, Kate decided a styled shoot with other talented vendors would be the perfect way to celebrate the growth of The ODIM Store.
"The inspiration for the shoot came from my love for the American south - sweaty rawness and the southern belles. I’m really inspired by Americana, and when I travelled recently to New Orleans, I really wanted to bring some of this inspiration back in an artistic way. The shoot was also partly to mark the opening of my new bridal store. Cathleen Jia (one of our bridal designers) graciously travelled from Melbourne to be with us and to help out on the day!"
The location was at an old saddleworld building in a very old location in Albury. Kate has always loved the heritage of the building with its rawness and exposed beams. "The chair in a few shots is borrowed from one of our local antique dealers who I shop a lot with!" she shares, adding that it reminded her of a chair that might sit on a porch crowded by family and story telling. The twisted willow featured in some of the photos is important as it is quite prevalent in the south of America - you’ll often see it over the swamplands full of Spanish moss.
The photographers, Katie Hillary and Bec Bower of Bower and Co are local creatives like Kate; making it easy to collaborate with a shared vision in weddings - more masculinity, sexiness and rawness. "We work so well together with my styling background and their beautiful capturing of natural light; I think we make a great team!"
Montanna, a local beauty, was reached out to by Kate. "I love her look. She is very striking and down to earth. I really wanted her look to be quite natural, highlighted by the sweaty rawness typical of New Orleanian weather. Makeup artist Matilda and hairstylist Emily from uZuri, also shared the same vision, making it easy to get them in to help out.
Like all the shoots done by One Day in March, local vendors, talent and artists were used as a support of local community.
