MEL + CHRIS

November 19, 2017

Small country town couple Mel and Chris first met at the local pub. Fast forward three years and Chris was proposing on the beach at Phillip Island, so nervous he dropped the ring into the sand. It was a destination wedding in Cable Beach, Broome where they finally tied the knot in an intimate oceanside ceremony.

Wedding date: August 23rd, 2017

Wedding location: Broome, Western Australia

Number of guests: 10

Ceremony time: From 12pm

Reception time: From 1pm

What was the vibe or theme of your wedding?

It was a very small, intimate gathering of close family. We had always wanted to travel through the Kimberley and stop at Broome to be married before making our journey back to Victoria. We finally made it happen and spent an amazing six weeks travelling and covering over 12,000kms with our three children aged four, six and 14. Our family flew into Broome from Victoria to meet us for the wedding.

How easy or hard was it to plan your wedding?

With a little research, the wedding was quite simple to plan being such a small gathering of people.

Where did the majority of your guests stay?

Kimberley Sands Resort, Cable Beach.

What are you glad you did on your special day?

Relax and enjoy our day. Things didn’t feel rushed which made it even more memorable.

Describe the reception space...

The reception was held in a local restaurant right on Cable Beach. The view was amazing, however as we were only a small group there was only a small part of the restaurant reserved for us to all enjoy lunch together.

Did you have an itinerary or planned activities for guests on either side of the wedding?

No, it was all about relaxing and enjoying time together. People came and went from the resort as they pleased to take in some of the stunning sights and activities that Broome had to offer.

What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in this location?

Plan the wedding for later in the day; we didn’t realize just how warm it could get around midday!

What did you like about having a destination wedding?

It was somewhere new for us all to discover, and a place where we all could relax and enjoy the wedding.

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

I’d have to say all of it, it was perfect for what we had wanted.

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Absolutely nothing, other than perhaps having it later in the afternoon!
