HENDI + DAVE

November 12, 2017

In Issue 1 of Luna + Honey, we whisked you to the destination wedding of wedding stylist Hendi and her husband David. The pair's main goal was to find a location that would showcase their love story. Bali was their ultimate choice, and an easy one at that, considering their special history with the Indonesian island. “We wanted a place with beautiful views, a relaxed setting for our wedding and a place where those who hadn't experienced Bali before, could experience somewhere special,” Hendi shares. What resulted was pure elegance, a beautiful occasion sure to stay in the minds of the couple’s friends and families always.

Wedding date: May 28th, 2016

Wedding location: Pandawa Cliff Estate, Pandawa, Bali

Number of guests: 70

Bridal Party: One maid of honour, five bridesmaids, one best man, and five groomsmen

Ceremony time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm

Reception time: From 7pm

Tell us about how you met and about the proposal…

We met on the dance floor of my local pub. In regards to the proposal, we went on a trip to the US in 2014. On our second night in LA, David surprised me with a limousine to dinner. He proposed in the limo in the middle of Beverley Hills!

Why did you choose to wed in Bali?

Bali is a special place for us. Pandawa Cliff Estate was a phenomenal venue, it took our breath away! The view is just incredible and the venue itself is like a palace! Pandawa Cliff Estate consists of 3 large villas, we hired all 3, so were lucky to have family and close friends stay there. We wanted a place with beautiful views, a relaxed setting for our wedding and a place where those who hadn't experienced Bali before, could experience somewhere special! It ticked all the boxes and we didn't even consider looking anywhere else.

What was the vibe or theme of your wedding?

I would say our theme was boho meets classic. Haha! A bit of a mix of themes! The ceremony was quite classic. Everything was white and I always find white classic. The reception I would say was more rustic/boho. I've seen so many weddings that I found it so hard to choose just one theme as I loved elements of many! The reception featured lots of timber, festoon lights, pink flowers, gold touches and I couldn't go without peacock chairs! I love the style of Bali weddings. Outdoors in the elements as the weather is so warm! They go above and beyond with their styling there, I found it so hard to choose everything!

How did you find your location?

I searched Bali wedding venues on various websites.

How easy or hard was it to plan your wedding?

Easy! I had the best wedding planner she made everything so easy.

Describe your ceremony and reception decor...

Ceremony: I wanted a giant arch and then to keep the rest simple! We had a large arch covered in white flowers, a white petal aisle and white bench seats.

Reception: Timber tables and timber bench seats. Hanging festoon lights. Natural peacock chairs and giant H&D Letter Lights. Pink and white floral garlands for the table centrepieces. We wanted a relaxed vibe so there was no set seating.

Did you have an itinerary or planned activities for guests on either side of the wedding?

We had a dinner 2 nights before with everyone in Seminyak. The day after we had a recovery day around the pool.

What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in this location?

Make sure you have a wedding planner, and give everyone plenty of notice and enjoy the time you get to spend with your family and friends around the wedding day!

What did you like about having a destination wedding?

Having everyone there with us in a place we love so much! Everyone was on holidays so was so relaxed!

What was your favourite part of your wedding day?

Walking down the aisle without a doubt! The experience is indescribable!
