As day turned to night in Spain’s capital city, the magic began for lovebirds Pia and Pacholo. The ceremony and reception was a near twelve-hour event, an extravaganza for the couple’s 220 guests. Taking place in one of the world’s most buzzing metropolitan city, it was only fit for their wedding to be larger-than-life.

Wedding Date: October 29, 2016

Wedding Location: Iglesia de San Manuel y San Benito, Madrid

Number of Guests: 220

Ceremony Time: 6pm – 7:30pm

Reception Time: 8pm – 4:30am

Tell us about how you met and about the proposal…

We met through mutual friends in Madrid for a night out. For the proposal, we both went to El Nido, Palawan for an anniversary trip. My best friend (who is married to my cousin) coincidentally planned a trip there at the same time. Pach set up a private dinner at a beach and flew my mum into the island to surprise her. He put the ring in a tiny box in the shape of my favorite pizza.

Where was the location of your wedding ceremony and reception?

Our wedding ceremony was at Iglesia de San Manuel y San Benito in Madrid and reception was at Casino de Madrid. We chose the location because it is the city where we met, tt is where Pach's father is from and both of us lived there for a few years and it is our favorite city.

How many times had you been to the location?

We both lived in Madrid. Pach had his eye on the Casino already and he actually used to attend mass at the church.

What was the vibe or theme of your wedding?

Our wedding was inspired by the history and design of the Casino de Madrid which is a heritage building in Madrid. Gold, Black, and Red.

How easy or hard was it to plan your wedding?

It was fairly easy considering it was planned from the Philippines.

Where did the majority of your guests stay?

Around the center of. A mix of air bnb, Spain Select and several hotels. The couple stayed at the Hotel Ritz, Madrid.

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Held my bouquet a little lower while I was walking! (haha) - And been more organized with the photo taking.

What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in this location?

Make sure you visit beforehand and get someone else from that location to help you. Don't be afraid to question prices when you think they are too.

What did you like most about having a destination wedding?

The fact that even though it was so far away, it felt so warm and homey. Everyone had a blast and for us, the whole affair felt genuine and very... us!

Anything else we should know about?

1.) Planning is part of the whole wedding experience so have fun. 2.) Know your and your partner's strengths and weaknesses in planning and take advantage! 3.) Get someone to send out your invites and handle RSVPs. We did it ourselves and it wasn't easy!
