In our inaugural issue of Luna + Honey, we were delighted to include the summer Tuscan wedding of Adriana and Stephen. Their destination wedding in Italy was half a world away from their New York home. However, with the bride's background in event production, the wedding ran smoothly and beyond their wildest expectations. The photos by Jules Bower speak wonders and visually capture the couple's incredibly special day.
Wedding date: July 5th 2015
Wedding location: Tuscany, Italy
Number of guests: 35
Bridal Party: The bride and grooms' parents
Ceremony time: 4:30pm – 5:30pm
Reception time: 6pm – 12am
Tell us about how you met and about the proposal…
Stephen and I were "wingmen" on our respective friends' dinner date which wasn't going as planned - we have been together for eight years and they never talked again!
On Black Friday (day after Thanksgiving) 2014, Stephen suggested we go to a Private Club he is a member at for dinner. Unbeknownst to me, he had set up a beautiful dinner in one of the private rooms with a roaring fireplace and table for two with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot (my favourite)! He got down on one knee and told me that he wanted to spend the rest of his life making me happy and would I start by becoming his wife. Of course I said yes! The ring was a stunnig three carat Emerald cut diamond with two baguettes on either side set in platinum, very simple but elegant which set the tone of our wedding.
Where was your wedding ceremony and reception?
Our ceremony was at Il Santuario della Madonna di Monterosso, Tuscany, Italy and our reception was at La Rocca il Castel di Castelfalfi.
Why did you choose this location and how did you find it?
Google is a wonderful thing... keywords being Tuscany, Chapel, Village, Hotel, Restaurant, Golf. We decided to pay homage to Stephen's family Italian heritage whilst making it accessible for my family and friends traveling from Australia.
During the planning of your wedding how many times did you visit the location?
I surprised my mother with a trip to Tuscany two weeks after the proposal to conduct a site visit of Castelfalfi - she flew in from Sydney and I flew in from NYC.
Did you have a theme for your wedding?
Rustic Tuscan Countryside: simple and elegant.
Describe the reception details...
For the reception décor, we went for barrique (barrels) from the winery at Castelfalfi were used as bases for food station and bar as well as guests to sit at along with rustic wood bar.
To keep in line with our "simple non-traditional" style, we decided to forego the dance floor and use music as a background to the stunning Tuscan countryside. To engage our guests we asked them to send us their favourite songs that we could include in the spotify playlist for the reception/dinner.
Did you do anything special for your guests?
Stephen and I created and made all print materials/collateral associated with the Wedding, including Interactive RSVP/Invites, Welcome Amenity Bags which incorporated Tuscan products such as Snacks, Nutella, Pellegrino, Crazy Socks for Men and Custom Made Cuffs for Ladies and Hangover Kit.
We also gave guest gifts – sugared almonds in stamped logo bags. Per Italian tradition, five almonds signify five wishes for the bride and groom: heath, wealth, happiness, fertility and longevity.
How easy or hard was it to plan your destination wedding?
My background in Event Production made it easy; I was used to handling logistics over the phone/email and had very clear vision of the overall experience.
What advice would you have for someone else planning a wedding in this location?
Be clear about what you want. Communication is excellent, no language barrier, also helpful with coordinating with local vendors who don't speak English!
What did you like most about your destination wedding?
All of our guests made their own memories of Tuscany along with our wedding experience by enjoying the sights and tastes of Italy!
