BRIT + SHANE

March 18, 2017

At a private villa in Playa Paraiso, just a few hundred metres from the world famous Mayan Ruins, Brit and Shane exchanged vows and were married with the striking Mexican sun setting behind them.

Wedding date: December 4th 2015

Wedding location: Tulum, Mexico

Number of guests: 28

Bridal Party: One maid of honour and one best man

Ceremony time: 4:30pm – 5pm

Reception time: From 5pm

How did you meet?

We were best friends before we started dating!

Tell us about the proposal…

We went on vacation to Vieques Puerto Rico and Shane surprised me at our Airbnb overlooking the ocean at sunset.

Why did you choose to marry in Tulum, Mexico and how did you find the location?

Through lots of research! We wanted a beach location that was accessible from Utah, where the bride is from, and the east coast where the groom is from (and where we now live together).

How many days did you stay here?

We arrived four days before the wedding and stayed a total of seven days there.

Where was your ceremony held?

Our wedding was held at a private villa that we rented for the guests.  It was in Playa Paraiso, a Caribbean paradise in the heart of the Mayan Riviera.  Playa Paraiso has been named one of the most beautiful beaches in the world.

Where did the majority of your guests stay, and what activities did you have planned for them to do on days either side of your wedding day?

Our guests stayed at the villa or the connecting hotel. We had a catered dinner the night before.

What was your favourite moment from your wedding day?

The mariachi band! It was an amazing touch to cocktails after the ceremony!

Is there anything you would have done differently?

I didn't like our DJ. I would have either made my own playlist or hired a band.

What advice would you give others planning a destination wedding, and in this area?

If you're not able to visit the location, hire a wedding planner to help out! it was hard to plan our wedding having never been to the area, but our wedding planner Natasha was great! Also, visit before and check out all the amazing restaurants and yoga retreats.

What did you like about your destination wedding?

The location was perfect and we loved how small and intimate it was.
