With one of the most visually breathtaking backdrops imaginable, New Zealanders Bec and Julian certainly achieved their goal of letting their location be the showcase of their nuptials. Keeping the details simple and elegant, what resulted was a picturesque affair that will surely last in the hearts and memories of their friends and family forever.

How did you two meet?
We met at university through mutual friends.
Tell us about the proposal...
We spent our anniversary in Queenstown every year, so our trip down there was not out of the ordinary. We decided that we would have a picnic lunch at one of the first places we went as a couple, Bob's Cove. A 10 minute walk from the car park leads you to a secluded bay with a jetty, surrounded by hills covered in trees and clear blue water. Once at the jetty, Julian got down on one knee which lead to our picnic being very short lived because we hadn't packed any champagne!
Where did you decide to host your destination wedding and how did you find the location?
The ceremony and reception were held at Jack's Point. It was somewhere we had been a number of times while visiting Queenstown, we would frequently go for a drive and have a coffee/breakfast/lunch there.
What advice would you have for someone else planning a wedding in this location?
Use a wedding planner/coordinator and let them do things for you - its their job, so dont feel bad! I would have loved to set up the venue but in the end I realise what a godsend they were. And what better surprise after the ceremony than to see how the room looked. They also have insider knowledge that you might not have, such as furniture hire, flowers, make-up and so on. This is all valuable information that you wouldn't get if you decided to do it all yourself.
What was the 'theme' of your wedding?
We didn't have a set theme in mind when we planned our wedding, but we have been told that it was elegant and simplistic. We wanted to use the amazing views at both the ceremony and reception and didnt want to take away from those.
Tell us more about your decor...
We opted for simplistic decor so we didnt take away from the setting that we were in. We had hanging branchs on the roof with hanging candles and glass pendants. On the tables we had low flowers, candles and simple linen.
What did you like about your destination wedding?
We loved that everyone made the effort to travel to our wedding; something we didnt expect but we were very grateful for. Not one person at our wedding lived in Queenstown! All of our guests took a long weekend so it meant that we could celebrate for the whole weekend!
Did you have an itinerary planned for guests for things to do on days either side of your wedding day?
The night before the wedding we invited our guests to our favourite bar in Queenstown to give us a chance to see everyone before the wedding. The day after the wedding, we had family lunches and then a friends dinner.
What was your favourite moment from your wedding day?
It is hard to pinpoint one favourite moment, we both loved the weekend as a whole, being able to share it with family and friends.
Anything else you'd like to share?
Three weeks before our wedding, our original photographer sent me an email to tell me that she was no longer able to shoot our wedding as she had decided to go to Italy. While this was the most disappointing thing that could happen at this time, her decision to do this was possibly the best thing that happened to us in the lead up to our wedding. In a state of panic, knowing that Queenstown is a popular wedding destination, I decided to take a huge chance and approach a photographer I knew was very unlikely to be available. To ensure a quick response, I contacted Jim and Vicky on all possible sources and I was highly surprised that almost 30 minutes later Jim had called me. From the first phone call with Jim and soon after, a conversation with Vicky, I knew that it just felt right and we had made the best decision. Their manner was highly professional, but they were also such kind and caring people. Jim captured the most amazing photos on our wedding and we still get comments to this day - almost a year later, that they are the most amazing wedding photos people have seen. We definitely think so too!
