In the heart of Tuscany’s Maremma region, with its rolling hills and distinctive coastline, Hanne and Alexander became husband and wife. Surrounded by family and friends, the couple, who live in Norway, knew early on that Nuova Pievanella, an organic olive farm set in the beautiful countryside, would be the perfect venue to host their destination wedding. So fond of the area were the pair, that they were able to incorporate the very heart and soul of the Pievanella into their wedding through their “olive” theme – white and olive green décor and olive leaves in the bridal bouquet.

Wedding date: June 18th 2016

Wedding location: Monte Antico, Tuscany, Italy

Number of guests: 65

Bridal Party: Maid of honour, two bridesmaids, two best men

Ceremony time: 3:30pm – 4:15pm

Reception time: 6pm – 7:30pm

Tell us about how you met and about the proposal…

We met on a holiday in Cyprus. For the proposal, Alexander went down on one knee in Hoi An, Vietnam on New Years Eve 2014. The proposal happened on a gondola and the whole of the river was candlelit as a traditional celebration of the new year.

Why did you choose Tuscany as your wedding location?

We chose the location because of the beautiful landscape surrounding the venue, the local food and wines. And of course, coming from Norway, the weather. We also wanted the celebration to last over a few days, and the area allowed us to spend lots of time together with all the guests.

Where were your ceremony and reception held?

Our ceremony was held outdoors in the garden of the mansion and the reception in the mansion’s front yard.

How did you find your location?

We travelled to Tuscany a year before the wedding and looked at different locations and venues. Through a lot of research and with help from the team of Taste of Tuscany we discovered that La Pievanella was the perfect place for us.

How long did you stay at the venue?

We arrived three days before the wedding and we stayed at the venue for five days.

Where did your guests stay?

The majority of our guests stayed at the venue, while some guests stayed at a nearby castle. We had a shuttle bus available for the guests staying at the castle.

Did you have an itinerary or planned activities for guests on either side of the wedding?

There was a tennis court, swimming pool, table tennis and a small gym available for the guests at the venue. We also gave all guest a welcoming brochure with all the possibilities around the area. We arranged two dinners situated at the venue and at a local restaurant the days before the wedding. The day before the wedding we also had a wine tasting for all of our guests.

What did you like most about your destination wedding?

The beautiful venue with the breathtaking view over Tuscany’s landscape. It felt like being in a fairy tale. Also it was nice to gather family and friends for a celebration that lasted for a whole weekend.

What advice would you give a couple planning a destination wedding in this location?

Do a lot of research on getting a good and professional wedding planner. We could not have done it without the assistance we got from the Taste of Tuscany team. Also visiting the location a year before gave us a much better idea on how we wanted our wedding to look like. Don’t hesitate to contact or mail other couples that has gone through the same experience. Make sure everything is set in at least half-a-year in advance. You don’t want any unpleasant surprises at your wedding day or the night before, so make sure everything is planned in good time. We found it more enjoyable when we could let our hair down and really enjoy our time there.

In hindsight, is there anything you would have done differently?

If anything, we could have started the wedding ceremony earlier as then we could have had a little more time mingling with friends and family before the wedding dinner.
