Best time to visit: The island makes for a stunning background any time of the year though we recommend March – May for the stunning autumn transitions with warm days and calm waters.

Wilderness Wonderland

With a population of around 4,600, Kangaroo Island takes approximately 1.5 hours to drive from end to end. About a third of the island is national park with protected areas like conservation parks and reserves. A 30 minutes flight makes the island easily accessible, with Kangaroo Island’s main township of Kingscote a mere 14 kilometres from Kingscote KI Airport. The island is ideal to explore by car, with mostly sealed roads taking you to key spots including Parndana, Flinders Chase National Park, American River and Penneshaw. Unsealed roads welcome you as well, with tucked-away beaches, bush and natural wildlife habitats making special destinations.

Before and after the ceremony, there are plenty of activities for you and your guests to enjoy here. For fine food and wine lovers, you can’t beat the cellar door of the island’s first and largest winery at Cape Willoughby. You can visit cosy cafes during the day and head to an elegant restaurant at night, with plenty of establishments dotting the island. The more adventurous at heart can head to the coast to swim, surf and snorkel in the uncrowded beaches and bays. Those who aren’t as adept in the water can still have fun on land, with caving at Kelly Hill Conservation Park, and scenic drives to dolphin spot, see the Remarkable Rocks at Flinders Chase National Park or cross bushland trails in an all-terrain vehicle. If you’re a lover of animals you will surely be spoilt whilst visiting Kangaroo Island with the vast wildlife found almost everywhere you look! Seal Bay and Admirals Arch are the perfect places to see sea lions and fur seals, while you’re likely to spot adorable little penguins at Kingscote Wharf. Kangaroos and koalas are easy to spot in most places on the island as well.

A true natural sanctuary, the island is ideal for couples looking to capture Australia’s charming character, with one-of-a-kind backdrops ranging from rolling hills of farmland and rugged cliff-scapes to long sandy beaches. You’ll be more than accommodated by the large assortment of resorts and retreats, bed and breakfasts, lodges and hotels available for your guests to stay. These along with an abundance of restaurants, vineyards and cellar doors also make ideal venues for you to host your wedding or reception as well. Ceremony locations at Snelling’s Beach on the island’s North Shore and the Cliff House perched on the cliff overlooking the beach make for an unforgettable ceremony spot outside windy winter months.
