STEPHANIE + JACOB

October 7, 2016

Young lovebirds Steph and Jake had one simple goal in mind when it came to executing their dream wedding – to have a relaxing and chilled out day spent with their loved ones. A garden wedding was the perfect fit, with Steph revealing, “…what inspired me to have this garden wedding would be so we could have a relaxing day and enjoy every moment of it, I wanted it to be more of a party than a wedding!”

How did you meet?

We both met at a camping ground in Byron Bay, NSW on Australia Day in 2011. I still remember it to this day - Jake and his friend Alex rode past my group of friends about 100 times before I finally asked them for a photo, and the rest is history! Exactly one month on, Jake and I decided that we would become boyfriend and girlfriend.

Describe the proposal…

Jake proposed to me in Byron Bay at the lighthouse, which was one of our favourite spots in Byron. He was a little romantic and proposed on our four and a half year anniversary. The day was just absolutely perfect. We both decided that we wanted to go camping where we first met (I think Jake had this planned the whole time). He took me up to the lighthouse and we watched the dolphins and sharks swim around for hours before we carried on for a walk until we ended up right out the back of the lighthouse. That was the point that he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! I was absolutely shocked - I was that shocked that I didn’t even cry or say anything! After everything that happened, I finally cried and they were the best happy tears ever!

Where was the location of your wedding?

The location of the ceremony was a little park not far from Jake’s parent’s house in Murwillumbah, NSW. The reception was at Jake’s parent’s house, also in Murwillumbah. The ceremony and reception were only a three minute drive away from each other.

Why did you choose these locations?

Jake and I fell in love with this park from the day we saw it, and we just knew from the start that we wanted to get married in that spot. For the reception at Jake’s parent’s house - it’s an amazing property and we also knew we would want the “party” to be at his parent’s house.

Tell us about your wedding cake…

It was a two tier cake with cream and strawberry jam in the middle. It was made by Jake’s Aunty Sharon and decorated by Jake’s other Aunty Tracey with fresh flowers. The cake was a naked wedding cake and it tasted absolutely amazing!

And your reception menu?

We had a buffet menu through Bilambil Farm Spit Roast Catering, which was amazing. I had so many people come up to me after they had dinner to say how amazing everything was. The meat was perfectly cooked, the cold and hot salads were great! I would highly recommend if you’re looking for a caterer on the Gold Coast/Tweed Heads area!

Describe your reception’s décor…

The reception was at my in-laws’ house. I collected jars for months before the wedding and used them with Tugun Fruit and flowers to make our centrepieces, along with the flower that sat along the table runners. We used festoon lighting to give off that amazing light at night time. As it was a winter wedding, we also decided to have six fires which worked amazingly (everyone loved them). I used all the excess jars to hang in the trees and filled them with flowers or candles. I collected a heap of candles which I also used along the tables and to decorate the outdoor area.

What were your favours?

Jake and I made our own. I used three Ferrero Rocher chocolates which I put into cello bags and then tied a little thank you note with twine.

What was your favourite moment from your wedding day?

Marrying my best friend! Also there was this one part at the ceremony where Jake was getting ready for his vows and did a big snot and everyone heard it! It was the funniest thing ever! The other best thing would be that our wedding was only $10,000 for everything. Jake and I did everything in our power to make sure our wedding was in budget and we are really pleased with how it turned out for the price! One last thing that was also funny was when we were in the middle of doing the speeches the caterer tried to leave but ended up getting bogged, so all the males at the reception got up and helped push him out of the garden! It was the funniest thing ever!

Is there anything you would have done differently?

Nope, our day was absolutely perfect!
